Welcome to Liar or Truth Teller — the game where truth sounds fake, and lies sound real.

There are two kinds of people in this game: Liars and Truth Tellers.

  • Liars must write a story from their life that is completely false.
  • Truth Tellers must write a story from their life that is completely true.

But here’s the challenge:

  • The Liars must make their fake stories sound believable.
  • The Truth Tellers must make their real stories sound unbelievable.

And here’s the twist:  You do not get to choose your role.

Your teacher will secretly decide who is a Liar and who is a Truth Teller. And your  teacher can choose any ratio they want:

  • Half liars and half truth tellers
  • 75% liars and 25% truth tellers
  • One liar in the entire class
  • Or, if they really want chaos… everyone can be a liar

Your role must remain top secret until the end of the game.

Step 1: Receive Your Role

Your teacher will give you a card of your given role: Liar or Truth Teller.

Be sure you don’t tell anyone.

Step 2: Write Your Story

Write a story based on your role.

Remember:

  • Liars = fake story that sounds true
  • Truth Tellers = true story that sounds fake

Add details, dialogue, suspense, and description to make your story convincing.

Step 3: Listen and Guess

As classmates read their stories aloud, keep track of your guesses.

Write down:

  • The name of each classmate
  • Whether you think they are a Liar or a Truth Teller

Step 4: Final Reveal

After everyone has shared, each student must reveal their true role.

The student with the most correct guesses wins the game.
