Many of ELL’s love soccer stars. One way to engage these students is by creating a lesson devoted to one of these stars.
Here is an example lesson.
Step 1: Ask students if they know who Neymar is. Then let them explain to you (in their own words) who he is. I have my students try to explain in 10 words or less.
Step 2: Turn off the lights, turn up the volume, and play Neymar highlights for a few minutes. You can start the video at 6:11 to watch his top 10 goals.
Step 3: Read the short text and watch the corresponding video on Neymar.
These are the steps I follow:
Step 1: Play the video and have students watch.
Step 2: Play the video and have students follow along on their worksheet.
Step 3: Have students answer the comprehension question on the worksheet provided.
