20-Word Summaries (Google Doc of Activities)

Many students dread writing summaries. And (at least for my students) this means they put little effort into improving their summary writing. 20-word summaries (aka 20-word gist) are a simple way of engaging students and enticing them to focus on writing clear and concise summaries. Vocabulary Challenge!

It is important to keep vocabulary fun. To do this, I have VOCABULARY CHALLENGES.  -Put students into groups. -Play the video. -Give students a set time to guess. -Let students use their dictionaries (unless the students are advanced).  -Give the winning group a prize. It works like magic. Students will be looking up words, collaborating, and arguing amongst themselves about academic vocabulary. The goal is to turn learning vocabulary into a challenge or a puzzle
