Power Verbs Activities

For the following Power Verbs and Creative Writing Prompts activities, I like to have writing contests. The student that can best incorporate these words into a story or paragraph wins! I tell students that I want to see them experimenting with words while writing creatively. I encourage students to be their silly selves when writing. The goal is to make writing fun, playful, and experimental.

I write the contest winners on the board. Writing contest winners get privileges (extra lives in the games we play, and more). I also like to call home to tell parents that their child recently won a writing contest.

Overall, writing contests are a great way of creating a positive environment when it comes to writing and vocabulary.

  1. Having read this I thought it was extremely enlightening.
I appreciate you taking the time and effort to put this content together.
I once again find myself spending way too much
time both reading and leaving comments. But so what, it was
    still worth it!
